Retiring - Farewell and Thank You!

It is with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement from digiscrap designing. I have LOVED sharing my artistic creations and seeing the gorgeous layouts you have created with my kits. I'll still participate in blog trains and charity collabs, so please check back occasionally for some fun freebies. In fact, I have a little freebie farewell gift for you today. It's called Spunky Punk. My daughter was my inspiration for this one. She just turned 12 and is the sweetest little punk I know.

My store at 3 Scrapateers is open through the end of the month, but as you know, Inspiration Lane closed last month. I love designing scrap kits, but my heart just kept getting broken when I made a home somewhere and then it was closed. I just don't have the heart to apply to another store. So, for now I will be a full-time mom and wife. I'm sure my family will be glad for that! I will miss you all so keep in touch! Farewell, dear friends!

Well, with Inspiration Lane closing this month I was ready to throw in the towel on designing. It's so hard to make a home somewhere on the web and then have it close. It's heartbreaking! Anyway, I decided that before I officially retired, I would give designing one last chance in the ScrapMatters Design Star contest. So, yesterday was the beginning of round 1. You can see all the contestant entries in the gallery at ScrapMatters. By clicking on an image, you can see links to download each mini kit. It's a great way to get a free mega kit, if you're looking for a fun freebie!

The first round is confidential, so I can't say which designer I am (it's between 32 and 34). LOL I would love it if you'd go check it out, leave a comment, and download the freebie. The current SM design team is doing the voting, so no pressure there. I just want to make sure somebody looks at my entry! LOL

I doubt I'll get very far in the contest as the competition is fierce, but I'm going to have fun doing it and then I'll probably retire from designing - at least for profit. I will still contribute to charity kits and blog trains just for fun. Thank you to all my loyal customers. It's been a pleasure getting to know you! Thank you for being a part of my life. :)

Two New Kits and a Fab Weekly Download

I have an alpha and two new kits out this week as well as a fun weekly download for you to check out this month at Inspiration Lane. My first kit is a mini for Halloween called Boo!. It's just the right price at this expensive time of year! My new alpha is an embossed acrylic alpha that will go with just about any layout. I even created a layout with it that you can see down below. I have been exploring a super fun website today. It is called Kevin and Amanda. It's always been one of my favorite sites, but I can't believe how much it's grown. They have recipes, giveaways, and other fun stuff, but my favorite section is the scrapping fonts! They're free for personal use and would look great in any layout.

CT CALL FOR GARDEN GIRL DESIGNS

I am currently seeking several talented layout artists to join my team. There are two ways to be on the team. There is the CORE team which gets a lot of perks and has monthly requirements, and there is the On-CALL team which has no monthly requirements. The On-CALL team works with kits of their choosing when they have time and photos to match the designs.

Requirements for the CORE team are:

Create 1-2 layouts with each new kit
Create 1 QP per month
Participate in one chat or challenge per month

Right now I sell my designs at Inspiration Lane, Divine Digital, and 3 Scrapateers (links to the right). You may visit my stores there to see if you'd be interested in working with my designs.

If interested email me a link to your best online gallery and list any other teams you’re currently on. Also let me know which team you're applying for. You must be willing to dedicate yourself to this team. We are a close-knit group and we have a lot of fun, but we also work hard. If you'd like to be on the CORE team, you should be willing to commit to being on the team at least 6 months. Call ends April 25th. Good luck!

CT Spotlight and Sneak Peek

This week I am spotlighting my lovely CT member Christie! She's a dedicated and talented scrapper and I'm so happy to have her on my team. Here's what you need to know about Christie:

She's engaged to her sweetheart Robby and has two sweet children Sean and Seth. She lives in Georgia and enjoys photography, collecting coins and Barbies, and (of course) digital scrapbooking! This time of year (Spring) is her favorite and she enjoys long walks where she can hear the birds. She is a stay-at-home mom - her toughest job ever! and she enjoys reality TV and Ruby Tuesday's - especially their Blondies. Yum! She's deathly afraid of snakes and hates having to get up early in the morning, but she does it because she loves her boys so much. :)

Here's what she says about being on team GGD, "I love being a GGD girl because I get the most fabulous kits to play with to capture life's wonderful moments with. The girls on the team are fabulous and very creative and I am proud to be along side of them."

I'm glad she's on my team because she is a great support to me. Here are some of my favorite layouts that she has created.

This week I wanted to start a new tradition - a special feature on one of my CT members. This lovely lady is so talented and always makes me look good. :) LOL Here are a few fun facts about STEPHANIE - my CT member of the week:

• She's been married 8 years to her sweetheart Dave and has one daughter who is 3.
• She lives in rainy Washington state and loves it.
• Besides digiscrapping which she started when her baby was born, she loves sewing and baking.
• Her favorite dessert is New York style cheesecake - YUM, and she loves Thai food.
• In spite of being somewhat reserved, she loves being in front of an audience!
• She works as a bookkeeper, but she may be starting her own business soon. :)
• She loves Twilight, Eragon, and Harry Potter.
• What she says about being on the GGD CT: "I absolutely love working with Larisa's kits. I feel so blessed each time a new one comes out. This team is amazing too. In the short time I've been with them, I've learned so much."

Join us tonight for the Tuesday Night Live chat at Scrap Outside the Box! Every Tuesday night, a bunch of fun scrappers get together to play games and then we exchange goodies. You see, each month the hostess (Kimberly) hands out a color swatch and theme. Then every person who wants to try their hand at designing can make something to share with the group! If you don't want to design, the last week is an exchange of quick pages using the designs that have been shared during the month. Isn't that a great idea!? At the end of the month, you have a full kit for free as well as a set of QPs! It's so much fun because we have a pretty crazy and silly group. :) The chat starts at 10 PM EST, so I hope to see you there every Tuesday. My Latest and Greatest

Hiya! It's been a long time since I last posted, but I'm finally getting around to it. I've finished quite a few kits since my last post, so here we go! My first two kits to show you are Primarily for Kids and Primarily for Artists. The two kits coordinate perfectly to make one huge kit! They work for back to school, art projects, and just about anything kid related. :) Here's a peek at the kits and some layouts by my CT.

The next kit I finished is called Ahoy Matey! It's perfect for all you scurvy dogs and pirate fans. I used this kit to scrap my son's pirate-themed birthday party. It would make some great invitations or cards, too! It's also great for Halloween or any occasion. Here's the kit and some layouts.

And, last in the list, but most recently designed, Fall Harvest. This kit is full of photo-realistic embellishments, including ribbons, a scarecrow, a crow, a pumpkin, and lots of leaves and flowers. A Promise of Spring

Today the weather was beautiful! It was a bit chilly, but the sun was shining and warmed my bedroom with it's golden glow. I can't wait for Spring! All of the new flowers, the smell of growing grass, the feel of the cool wind blowing my hair around - I love it all! So, to honor this wonderful time of year, I created a kit called A Promise of Spring. I fell in love with the colors in this kit. It's February!

So, it's been just a tiny little while since I've posted. Har har. Things have been crazy for me! I am still trying to run my doll business and keep up with digital designing. I have four young children, am involved in my church activities, and run two local clubs - a book club and a scrapbook club. Wow! No wonder I have been getting migraines. LOL.

I have some great news! I have been accepted as a designer at the terrific digi store Been There Scrapped That! It seems like a great group of designers and scrappers. I look forward to making myself at home there. LOL. I haven't uploaded any kits yet, but will be doing that this week.

Hypocrisy

Like the rest of the United States, I watched the recent elections with great interest. I was not too surprised at the results of the presidency. But I was amazed when I heard that Proposition 8 passed in California. There are actually more people that believe in traditional marriage than those who don't? Wow! I was excited to hear the news until I read about what has been happening as a result of this proposition passing. You see, I am a Mormon. Actually we call ourselves members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My church president asked its members to vote yes on Prop 8 because we believe in the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman. Now, don't think that we are against homosexuals. For some reason, this is how our support of Prop 8 has been interpreted. This is not the case at all. I grew up in the Portland, Oregon area and had several friends and acquaintences who were either bisexual or homosexual. I had no problem being friends with them because their sex lives were their own business as my sex life is my own business. I would never judge a person based on one single characteristic of who they are. As for my church's stance, we believe in being kind to everyone. We believe in being Christians in the truest sense of the word. Our support of Prop. 8 was simply about defining "marriage." My church has no problem with civil unions between whoever! But if a law were passed that marriages must include homosexual unions, our church could be sued and forced to perform those unions - or risk losing their tax exempt status. Taxes would then be taken from the voluntary charitable donations of its members. So, suddenly the freedom of our church and its members would be in jeopardy. Isn't that what our nation was founded for - to protect freedom of religion? I wanted to clear up the confusion a bit, but now I want to discuss what has brought me deep sorrow the past few days. After the passing of Prop. 8, illegal protests were held on the grounds of the LA temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Protestors mocked our religion in signs and posters. They attempted to climb the gates and storm the temple. Some people tried to remove graffiti left on the temple gates and were beaten. The temple was forced to close to protect patrons. Members of my church had their homes and yards vandalized and their lives threatened. For those of you not familiar with our temples, they are considered sacred to us. They are supposed to be places of beauty, peace, and contemplation. The temple is a precious gift God has given us to grow closer to Him. To even think of the temple being vandalized or mocked nearly breaks my heart. The part that bothers me most, next to the desecration of the temple, is the hypocrisy of the situation. Those protestors are angry because they feel that my church is being intolerant. So, they are being intolerant to my church? It seems like an obvious contradiction, but somehow those who are angry don't see that. If someone began vandalizing gay bars, or beating up homosexuals, there would be a public outcry! If someone stood in front of a Mosque with degrading signs or mocked Islams, it would be a national headliner. What I don't understand is why the government sits back and does nothing about this situation in LA. Since I am just one person and I can't do anything to stop what is happening, I wanted to do something to share my feelings about the temple. In the temple, couples are married not just until death do they part, but for eternity. Even after death, they are joined together. Isn't that great?! I am so thankful that I can be with my sweetheart forever. So, I created a quick page using a photo I took of the Salt Lake City Temple. I hope some of you will find use for it. Either way, I hope that you will join me in encouraging tolerance and love between all men.

National Digital Scrapbooking Day

I have been busy gearing up for National Digital Scrapbooking Day. The websites I sell my designs on are both having lots of events to celebrate and awesome sales! At SOTB I am hosting a speed scrap. It should be lots of fun. It's my first time hosting one, so I hope I can come up with something grand. :) I have also been working on several kits soon to be released. I finally finished my kit called Steppin' Out. It's a red, white, and black kit with a touch of blue flair. You can check it out at SOTB or SOL.

I'll post a freebie QP with the kit tomorrow. I've got to get my body in bed so that I can get up for church tomorrow.
